das my girl!!!! . . . @studentsonsust with @get_repost. #repost ・・・ We've recently recruited many amazing people who are excited to get into classrooms and share some knowledge this semester! Today we'd like to introduce Kristina! Kristina is a second year MSc student in the University of Calgary’s Geography Department. She earned her Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto in Physical Geography and Criminology. During an undergraduate internship position she was introduced to the field work component of Geography. She spent an entire summer working in sandy rivers of southern Ontario, and she fell in love with studying water and how it affects our environment. Prior to starting her Master’s she worked for a consultant, where she learned about the industrial side of environmental work. She then began her research in glacial hydrology on the Haig Glacier in Kananaskis Region of the Canadian Rockies with the University of Calgary in 2016. Here, she realized she thrives on learning, teaching, and designing her own research. Kristina is passionate about sharing her work, and teaching about the impacts of our lifestyles on the environment through the experiential learning she loved when she was in grade school. #sustainability #geography #Alberta #education #haigglacier #womeninscience #womeninSTEM #WinSTEM

This final examination “passed” card signified that Laura Heath Hills passed her classes in 1894. This card is another piece from Laura Heath Hills scrapbooks of her time at Woman’s Med. If you can make out the handwriting, you can see what classes she took that semester! #tbt • ⠀ • ⠀ • ⠀ • ⠀ • ⠀ #sciencehistory #historyofscience #historymatters #vintagemedical #medicalhistory #archivesofinstagram #womeninmedicine #womeninscience
Stella & Guinness ♥️ cancelled lectures + snow days (more than having their picture taken). Clearly, Guinness is easily distracted but we still think he’s perfect❄️

Anyone else find it interesting that in a search for medical clip art, all the males are labeled ‘doctors’ and the females are all ‘nurses’??? #ilooklikeasurgeon #femalesurgeon #femaledoctor #womansurgeon #womensurgeons #womeninscience #womeninmedicine #aws #thisiswhatasurgeonlookslike #girlpower #girlpower💪
Check out my insta stories today for some fun facts about me... including one about how old I was when I graduated from college (hint: 👶🏻👩🏼‍🎓) . Tell me a quirky fact about yourself! ⬇️I looove learning more about my followers!
Today I started on the maxiprep for my plasmids with deltaS mouse/human gene insterts! 'delta' (usually shown as a triangle 🔺) stands for 'without' whilst 'S' means signalling sequence. So, we are inserting genes to code for proteins minus their signalling sequence! And then transfecting these into cells to express. Why? Because we want to see what happens when the cells are unable to secrete the protein! Will the cytoplasmic accumulation of the protein kill the cells? Hopefully we will find out soon!! 🤓🔬. . (PS- these have been virkoned, hence the funny colour and bubbles!! ❌) . #science #laboratory #labwork #lablife #scientist #scientificresearch #scienceblogger #womeninstem #womeninscience #femalescientist #sciencegirl #phd #phdlife #researchstudent #cancerresearch #tissueculture #cellculture #pipetting #phdstudent #postgrad  #mywork #girlsinscience #womanwhoscience #STEMsquad #transfections #plasmids #maxiprep #bacteria #bacterialculture

I came across this @businessinsider read today and thought you might enjoy it too. • http://www.businessinsider.com/how-your-clothing-impacts-your-success-2014-8 • "Let's be clear: In the big picture of ultimate reality, what you wear neither defines who you are as a person nor determines your value as a human being," says Darlene Price, president of Well Said, Inc., and author of "Well Said! Presentations and Conversations That Get Results." "However, in the temporal realm of mere mortals, fair or not, people judge us by the way we look and that includes the way we dress." Especially in the workplace, clothing significantly influences how others perceive you and how they respond toward you, she says. #ipreview @preview.app
Punto de fusión / Melting point 🔥 . . Mel-Tem (a very old one in the pic) is used to determine the melting point of a compound. It uses capillary tubes and a thermometer for doing so. You put a really small amount of your compound in the mini capillary tube and watch it melt. You calculate the melting simply by taking the temperature where you saw the first sign of melting and when everything its melted and voilá! Melting point on point 👌🏼 Very basic procedure, but interesting (: . . @the.nanotechgirl #science #ciencia #meltingpoint #puntodefusion #tech #thermometer #instrument #lab #lablife #womeninscience #womeninstem #laboratorio #laboratory #chemistry #quimica #interesting #facts #fact #factoftheday #sabiasque #like

In Solitude ~ When I'm out conducting fieldwork, I am almost always alone. It was new for me when I first started; walking alone in the desert seemed terrifying. I learned to enjoy it, but my anxieties resurfaced after having a child. One day, while surveying a range improvement, I found this beauty all on its own as well. I recorded it and then sat quietly with it for a while. There were no other artifacts anywhere near where it was deposited, and it seemed so fitting that we should be alone together in the desert that day. My last day of fieldwork for the summer, and I had found an ancient companion. My anxiety melted away and I was able to appreciate my last few hours of desert solitude. #archaeology #projectilepoint #womenempowerment #womeninscience #outdoorwomen #momspiration #sheexplores #respectandprotect #prehistoric #moab #moabrocks #coloradoplateau
