#theysay Once every 25,920 years the earth's #equator lines up perfectly with the center of the #milkyway #galaxy.... & some #ppl are indicating that we are long #overdue for a #major #earth shaping #disaster which might be #intense #climatechange (no not pollution) but u know the #catastrophic kind, like when you go from a #hotclimate to a #frozentundra rapidly .. what's really odd is nobody seems to mention that the 3 major storms with impacts which we've never seen in recent memory all occurred around September which was the start of a significant astrology date also..so it makes me curious.. #hmm #hurricaneharvey #hurricaneirma #hurricanemaria & etc

A big thank you to everyone who took part in the @viiphoto print sale to support @humanrightswatch! Back home in Nairobi and working my way through signing each of your prints before shipping them off, just in time for the holidays. Wishing you all peace and joy. . In 2016, I was driving through a drought-stricken area of western Somaliland when I came across a group of women washing their clothes in a roadside puddle -- the only water they could find. We spoke about the challenges they faced, of the animals they’d lost in the drought, and the wells that had dried up. Somalia has long been a place of extremes, but climate and environmental changes are compounding those problems and leading to the end of a way of life. When they finished washing in the puddle, they turned to walk home, and I took this image of one of the women in a field of cacti. The colors of her scarf melded into the vegetation and sky, and I was reminded of how intimate the ties are between people's lives and the land. I'm driven to share these stories of people struggling to cope with a dramatically altered environment in the hopes of raising an alarm. The extent of climate harm depends collectively on us. #climateforconflict #somalia #climatechange #environment

My #review of Spineless by Juli Berwald. . Full review here: https://wp.me/p21txV-EY . . Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ of 5 ⭐️s. . THE JELLYFISH ARE COMING! Or at least, that's what some people think is going to happen, especially if climate change keeps on going the way it has been. After all, a changing climate means changing seas, and it seems that those changing seas are becoming increasingly more hospitable to jellyfish. The jellyfish, in turn, are outcompeting the species that humans rely on, thus creating an untenable situation that could lead to a jellyfish crisis of apocalyptic levels. . Juli Berwald takes a look into the possibility of the jellyfish apocalypse, as well as the overall mystery (and prettiness) of jellyfish in this book - or at least, that's what I THOUGHT this book was going to do. I mean, it DOES do that, kinda, but it's more focused on Berwald's journey back to her passion after putting it aside in favour of the practicalities of life in general. While the book does quite well exploring that and showing the reader that it IS possible to go back to your passions no matter what your age or what stage you are in life, that's not what I thought this book was going to be about. I don't mind mixing memoir with science, of course, don't get me wrong, but I was expecting more of the science than the memoir. And I mean, Berwald TRIES to go for a kind of Elizabeth Kolbert feel in this book but through the lens of jellyfish, but it doesn't QUITE have the same punch-in-the-gut impact as The Sixth Extinction because the memoir parts just doesn't play nice with the science parts. . Anyway, this is still a pretty nice read, with solid science and a touching memoir, just not QUITE there yet because those two aspects don't play so nice together in this iteration. . #reviews #bookreview #bookreviews #donereading #finishedreading #nonfiction #nonfic #science #history #climatechange #memoir #bookstagramit #bookblog #bookblogger #booktography #bookstagrammersunite

Went #upcountry to a farm today to buy some meat of #heidschnucke a special german sheep for x-mas and had a very nice chat with the #farmers . We talked about the impacts of #climatechange and the challenge for muslims to get #halal meat in Germany. That guys are originally #northerners like me so it was easy talk. On the way there was lots of #snowagain and I saw a #castleintheclouds. The farmers wife gave me a #mistletoe that I hung into the living room. #imnotmoody I just have time 😊now
You can replace your house, your phone, your computer and your car. However, you cannot replace your only home. Our planet. This is the time to act. This is the time to think about what YOU can do.. and act on it. It’s incredible if you march. It’s super cool if you sign petitions. It’s lovely if you speak up. And it’s the beyond powerful to make conscious decisions yourself. Every day. How to start? 💚 Our knives and forks can be weapons of mass destruction or tools for healing this planet. Our lands are polluted, our oceans are dying, the air becomes toxic because we eat so much animals. So what will you eat today? It’s a marvellous planet if we let it. 🙏🏼 #climatechange #sustainability #love #oneplanetsummit #kyotoprotocol #saveourocean #saveourland #saveourhome #environment #nature #animals #alllove #greenlife #green #gogreen #plantbased #planetfriendly #animalfriendly #nomeat #nofuzz #feelgood #loveyourself #theonlyplanetwithchocolate
The other day @missafrica2017_calabar took us to a village for our traditional wear photo shoot. We got to meet adorable children. Interacting with them reminded me the innocence that they possess, hope, love, dreams and aspirations. It was a reminder why we need to protect our environment, to keep it safe and clean so that our children could have endless possibilities. #MissAfrica2017Calabar #climatechange #Rwanda 🇷🇼

Which difference will we make this week? Buying something - anything - is paying for someone to produce that thing. In the case of animal products, we pay for the abuse and murder of animals, the exploitation of worker and we also pay for a process that is the leading cause of climate change, habitat destruction, antibiotic resistance, ocean deadzones and heart disease. But, choose a kinder option and the ripples of that kind action are far reaching and beneficial to all. @joyfulvegan #makeadifference#climatechange#vegan#compassion#purchasingpower#consumeless#choosekind#makingadifference#everydayisanewday#oceandeadzones#eatplants#minimisedestruction#changeonething#govegan#vegansofinstagram #vegan#vegansofig

It’s time! Time to change some things. My hole life I was trying to be just like somebody else. I wanted to be cool, to fit in and to be acknowledged. We are all constantly thinking about how to fit in. We are adapting our behaviour changing our personality in order to be acknowledged. But acknowledged by whom? That other guy that’s trying to be cool as well? Fuck it! And read this, read it carefully, read it at the level of your heart and your soul not your head. Here is what trying to fit in, trying to be cool is doing to our society, your family and yourself. There is a reason why people want to fit in. That reason is a fundamental human need. It’s the need to be acknowledged. There are two ways to fulfil that need. Either you are fulfilling it in the short term or in the long term. Fulfilling anything in the short term is poison, it’s death! Trying to fit in is creating a short term solution for our problem. You know what I am talking about right? The feeling you have when you are home - alone. Thinking about how much you don’t want to be cool and to fit in? Exactly that’s poison, that’s death. But there is a problem connected to this short term gratification, way bigger than you might imagine right now. If you ever thought about politics, medicine, economy, world hunger, deceases, stress or ngo’s you will realise, that non of those mentioned above will deal with the problem itself. All of them are dealing with secondary problems. And that’s because most humans learn, by heart, at very young age to solve problems in the short term. And that again reflects on our world. And every second we are dealing with secondary problems we are one step further away from the solution. Be it in politics, cancer or your personal life. So today I am asking you on thing: Do you want the solution or a bigger problem? 🔥
