Week 1 of the semester✅ This semester my friends is not going to be like last semester. Today is Friday, I had to drive to campus for physics lab and then had to drive home...and you know what? I didn’t mind one bit! Last semester I dreaded driving to campus. Why? I wasn’t enjoying what I was studying. This semester is completely different. I can’t wait for classes to actually start because I love being a student again. I also decided to leave one of my jobs (clearly not the hospital) and it’s such a huge relief not having to work during the week anymore. I finally have time to just be a student and I actually have time for myself now. My favorite part is that I have time to study again and not rush all over the place everyday. This week went great and I can’t wait for lectures next week😊

Five Steps to Acing Organic Chemistry: _________ Organic Chemistry can be a challenging course, but is isn’t impossible. It requires a lot of discipline, a lot of hard-work, and outside the box thinking ✨These are the tips that I picked during my experience and that helped me excel in OCHEM. _________ 1. Practice what you learn after each class. After each lecture spend 30-45 mins going over what you learned that class. It doesn’t have to be right after the class. Just try to go over it before your next class. This keeps things fresh in your mind 🧠 , and you will have an idea of the concepts well before exam time. _________ 2. Buy a self-study guidebook 📖 for organic. This can be from any publisher, I used one by Jiben Roy. These books break down the concepts into simple steps. Sometimes the actual textbooks can be wordy and hard to follow at times, so the self-study guide helps with that. _________ 3. Draw ✏️ out the structures and reactions, don’t just read your notes/book. Drawing them out helps you remember it better. I highly recommend drawing them on white boards. Plenty of space to draw out reactions and more space to think! ________ 4. Do the problems at the end of the chapters from your book. Most of the time in Orgo, your professor won’t 🙅🏽‍♂️ assign hw problems. You will just have 4-5 exams. So it’s up to you to practice problems on your own. Practice, Practice, Practice, and Practice some more! ________ 5. Plan and study ahead! NEVER NEVER NEVER, STUDY THE NIGHT 🌚 BEFORE. I would recommend studying for Orgo exams at least a week ahead, this gives you enough time to go through the different chapters and concepts. So if you don’t understand something you have time to meet with a tutor, classmate, or professor to get it clarified. ________ I implemented these five steps into my approach and it helped me enjoy the course. But I understand this can be a challenging class for majority but if you study earlier, work hard, and keep things organized you’ll be on your way to that A! If you have any questions please feel free to send me a DM or shoot me an email - U #ochem #organicchemistry #organicchem #gradstudent #premedlife #premed #premedstudent
📚WOW what a week! I started my semester this week and I’m going full-time while still working 4 jobs, all while Aaron is knees deep in his Paramedic program. Our ‘date nights’ for the next few months will probably consist more of study dates than anything else but for now I wouldn’t have it any other way. Being able to work on BIG goals together is so much more fun than doing it alone, or having one of you do it while the other just doesn’t understand why you can’t go out any time you want to. Even with our heads buried in our books I still love being home with him at night knowing that we’re working on something awesome together. . This semester, Trigonometry will be my challenge (math never was my forte), Chemistry will be my treat (it’s my favorite subject!) and American Sign Language will be my Privilege (so thankful to be able to take ASL as my foreign language and can’t wait to be able to communicate with patients who sign!). Now back to studying...it’s going to be a tough semester!
Here's a red tailed hawk as captured from my binoculars. I had to wake up at 4:30 am to go to a mock carcass study as part of my ecology class. We set up the "carcass" with some additions and observed what scavengers came in and when. So here's one of the hawks. #biologymajor #biology #ecology #ecologystudy #sciencemajor #birds #birdsofinstagram #hawk #hawks #redtailedhawk #redtailhawk #redtailhawks #biomajor
Neurons, while shaped differently and have unique characteristics, are just like any other cell in the body. It has a nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondria and many other organelles - Specifically in the cytoplasm (located in the axon called axoplasm), transport occurs as like any other cell. There is slow and fast axonal transport. During fast axonal transport, it is further broken down to anterograde (away from cell body) and retrograde (toward the cell body) - Viruses actually use RAT (retrograde) to travel up into the spinal cord to take their effects. Viruses that are known for this is depicted in the picture shown here.
